We recommend 4-5 days into her heat cycle.

Every dog is different. On a female with regular cycle, 3-5 test may be enough. In other circumstances, they can require more.

On a bitch with irregular cycle, more tests might be needed.

There are special situations where the bitch started to increase the Progesterone level and they “stall” at certain value. That makes it more difficult and more progesterone tests will be needed.

Yes, due to the equipment & supplies needed for the testing.
We have two different options, a 20 minute test, and a 60 minute test. Depending on how many Progesterone tests we have that day will determine when, but it doesn’t take that long usually. Progesterone tests are performed first come first served. You can either wait for results, or we will call you with the results on completion.

Our recommendations are as follows:

Artificial Insemination 8+ to 12

TCI 12+ to 20

Surgical 20+

Transcervical insemination (TCI) is a technique that is popular because it can be used with any form of semen (fresh, fresh-chilled, and frozen)

It all depends with the ovulation timing, schedule and quality of semen. In our experience, 2 inseminations (Artificial Insemination or TCI) should be enough, if the timing is good and the semen is of good quality. There are some occasions (depending on the cycle of your female) that we may suggest an additional insemination.

Surgical insemination can only be done once.

At 30+ days after insemination, we can do Ultrasound to confirm pregnancy. At 55 days after ovulation, we can do X-ray to determine how many puppies she has.

Brachycephalic breeds (like Bulldogs, French bulldogs, Boxer etc) have some anatomic conditions that require C-sections.

Large breeds (Labradors, Dobermans, Great Danes etc) with a singleton, or a large number of puppies are recommended to have C-section due to stress and being unable to finish the delivery of all her puppies. And, very small breeds (like Yorkies, Chihuahuas, Maltese etc) with either singleton or more than 4 or 5 puppies, are recommended for C-section.

The normal gestation period in dogs is approximately 63 days from conception. Some dogs may deliver a few days prior or past this date, which is why we suggest reverse progesterone’s being performed from day 58 on.
When this stage starts, the clinical signs of restlessness, apprehension, panting, not wanting to eat, nesting, shivering and occasional vomiting are present. Some dogs don’t exhibit any signs.
We recommend testing at 58-60 days so you plan ahead for her delivery.
Prior to C-section, a reverse progesterone will let us know if her body is preparing to go into labor.

Our C-section surgeries are first come, first serve Monday thru Friday. We highly recommend coming in as soon as we open in the morning to test her Reverse Progesterone. Testing her early will also save you a spot on our C-section list.

We value your time and business, we will try our best to accommodate you. Depending on how many surgeries we have lined up that day, will determine your waiting period.

We perform C-Sections Monday – Friday from 9am-2pm most weeks. Late day C-Sections can sometimes be accommodated depending on Staff Availability at an additional cost.
